Let's Talk Dietary Restrictions

Hi friends! We all know good food heavily impacts hackers experiences and can really make your event stand out. But it can be frustrating for hackers with dietary restrictions (allergies, vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, lactose intolerant, kosher, halal, etc.) to not have any food options for 24 hours. So let’s talk about it!

What types of dietary restrictions do you consider when planning out your catering orders?

If you have any dietary restrictions, what was the best food you’ve had at a hackathon?

Are there any other ways you can think of to make your event more accessible for people with dietary restrictions?

Dietary restrictions aside, what do you think about offering more healthy meal and snack options?

Also, here’s an article that has some good options that fit with most diets, I’ve seen Mediterranean food, Indian food and tacos/burrito bowls work particularly well with acommodating different diets: https://www.ezcater.com/lunchrush/office/6-dishes-friendly-types-dietary-restrictions/

Don’t do premade or assembled food. Buffet or basics style is really easy and often cheap.
